Honor Amongst Pirates
As the story goes, on a foggy dew cast morning, as the sun burnt its way over the horizon, a man with a mighty beard sits at the mouth of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, planning a happening. Joining forces with local pirates, both with involvement with local rags, create a much deserved award to be given to honored men and women in their respected pirate communities.
The Order of Leviathan was the creation of Talderoy, Pirate Magazine’s 2009 Pirate of the Year, who wanted to shine a light on many of the amazing Pirates in the community. Along with Klaus Chroszielweski and Dave Nichols of Pirate’s Magazine, the “Co-Founding Members” charted a course in search of the “Devil’s Dozen” who would be the first members elected into the Order. Nominations came in from the far corners of the Pirate Community, and there was no shortage of Captains deemed worthy of the honored award by their crews. In the end, a vote of confidence from the pirate community at large selected the first Devil’s Dozen and it began!
As time passed, much like the changing of the winds at sea, so did the restless nature of what could be for the Order. Not a year had gone by and there was word of this being a one off recognition, but how could it be with so many worthy pirates out there who deserve to be recognized. Talderoy along with his first mate Lycan, spent many a busy morning of Grog and Hardtack ( Starbucks & Donuts ) re-creating and branding the Devil’s Dozen award, until they came up with the fact, it should be an ever growing pirate group! Thus, the Order of Leviathan was born. Through rough seas and challenges, this idea fought and changed to create what it is today, an ever-evolving, international, recognition, made up of a Devil’s Dozen + infinity of amazing men and women who continue to live up to the honor they have bestowed upon them.
For over a decade, every two years since the Order was formed the Order of Leviathan brings in 13 new pirates from the pirate community. Many pirates apply and only 13 are chosen! Do you have what it takes to be Leviathan? Get to know its members.
